Focal Point

Screen Nova Scotia is an industry association and film commission. It has established itself as Nova Scotia’s advocacy group for an alliance of local media producers, prominent service providers, unions, cast and crew.

In 2023 the group wanted to modernize their branding to stand out from other similar provincial associations. The mandate was to develop a logotype and supporting assets as well as a complete system of tools for the team.

The first step was creating a main logotype that would guide the other parts to come. The primary logotype is a grouping of shapes mimicking the coast line of Nova Scotia. It also includes a subtle nod towards the cone spread of film production lighting. A secondary logotype was also developed for uses on smaller pieces and footers.

A pattern with similar shapes was also created for use on backgrounds as well as a series of “coastline” inspired form for headers.

Various assets then had the new branding system applied. These include a booklet, notebook, social media templates and standing banner. Finally, Screen Nova Scotia was provided with an extensive Style Guide so their internal assets would maintain the new branding direction.
